Promotion of Bicycle and Tricycle Use in El Salvador

DEVELOPMENT OF SUPPORT MECHANISMS

The general objective to be achieved in this area is:

To guarantee that the cyclist's rights are acknowledged and respected in the country

A new association called "FRIENDS OF THE BICYCLE" will be formed to be in charge of the execution of this part of the program. This association will be an autonomous institution integrated by cyclists and any other persons that might be interested in participating in the promotion of bicycles in El Salvador.

Some of the tasks that this association will carry out are the following:

  1. To promote the development of bicycle infrastructure such as cycle ways, traffic signs, parking places for bicycles, etc. These activities are going to be promoted in each one of the municipalities where chapters of the association exist.
  2. To establish collective insurance mechanisms such as life accident, hospital or illness insurance.
  3. To develop competitive, recreational and turistic cyclisn.
  4. To carry out regular courses on different topics of interest to the cycling community.
