OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM

The general objective of this program is to promote in all social sectors and regions of El Salvador a massive use of bicycles, tricycles and other pedal power mechanisms. In other words to promote a bicycle culture in the country.

In more specific terms, this means to achieve the following goals:

  1. That the majority of car drivers and a good fraction of bus users end up as cycle riders
  2. That those than can not use the motorized modes because of economic reasons, can use a bicycle
  3. That those that now use their backs or heads to transport loads, use a bicycle or a tricycle instead
  4. That the people with limitations for walking can use a tricycle for handicapped
  5. That cycle uays and parking places for bicycles are built
  6. That car drivers and traffic authorities recognize the cyclist's rights
  7. That all people who want to use a bicycle for commuting have the possibility to do so
  8. That small jobs at home, in the industry or in commercial activities can be done with pedal power mechanisms

in summary:
That bicycles and tricycles become the main transportation means in the country. That they are conceived as the normal and natural modes, and the motorized means are considered, as the complementary vehicles.
